Gretchen Esther Whitmer was born on August 23, 1971 in East Lansing, Michigan. She attended Michigan State University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in communications and a law degree.
Political Career
Whitmer began her political career as a member of the Michigan House of Representatives from 2001 to 2006. She then served as a Michigan senator from 2006 to 2015.
Governor of Michigan
In 2018, Whitmer was elected as the 49th governor of Michigan. She ran on a platform of "fixing the damn roads" and defeated her Republican opponent, Bill Schuette.
