Will ensure 24x7 free power: AAP

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday promised free electricity around the clock to people in Punjab if his party is voted to power in the Assembly polls next year.

Kejriwal said the AAP government in Delhi has already provided free electricity up to 200 units to every household and also waived pending electricity bills worth Rs 11,000 crore.

The AAP national convener said electricity is a basic necessity and not a luxury, and that his party is committed to providing power free of cost to every household in Punjab.

Kejriwal also promised to replicate the Delhi model of governance in Punjab, which includes providing free and quality education, healthcare, and public transport.

The AAP leader said his party will also provide employment to every household in Punjab within the next five years.

Kejriwal's promises come ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections, which are due in early 2022.

The AAP is one of the main contenders in the polls, along with the ruling Congress and the Shiromani Akali Dal.

The party had made similar promises of free electricity and other freebies in the Delhi Assembly elections in 2020, which it won by a landslide.

It remains to be seen whether the AAP will be able to replicate its Delhi success in Punjab.
