Microsoft Signs Deal with Constellation to Provide Low-Carbon Power to Three Mile Island Nuclear Generating Station

Microsoft and Constellation NewEnergy announced a deal to supply low-carbon power to the Three Mile Island Nuclear Generating Station.

Three Mile Island (TMI) is located in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, United States, approximately 10 miles (16 km) southeast of Harrisburg. The facility has been shut down since 1979 following a partial core meltdown, but the TMI Unit 1 reactor remains operational and generates electricity.

Constellation will provide Microsoft with 24/7 carbon-free electricity for the next 15 years.

The deal is part of Microsoft's commitment to becoming carbon negative by 2030. Microsoft has already purchased renewable energy agreements for more than 10 gigawatts of wind and solar energy. The TMI deal will add an additional 800 megawatts of low-carbon power to Microsoft's portfolio.

"This deal is a significant step towards our goal of becoming carbon negative by 2030," said Brad Smith, President and Vice Chair of Microsoft. "We are committed to using our scale and resources to help accelerate the transition to a clean energy future."

"We are proud to partner with Microsoft on this important project," said Joseph Dominguez, CEO of Constellation. "This deal is a testament to the growing demand for low-carbon energy solutions, and we are confident that it will help Microsoft achieve its sustainability goals."

The TMI deal is a major win for Microsoft and Constellation. It is a sign of the growing demand for low-carbon energy solutions, and it is a testament to the commitment of both companies to sustainability.
